The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) has announced that it will hold its public engagement for the Upper East Region at the Akayet Hotel in Bolgatanga on 16th June 2025 at 9:00 a.m., as part of its nationwide consultations on the review of the 1992 Constitution.

This was contained in an official statement issued and signed by Rainer Akumperigya, PhD, Secretary to the Constitution Review Committee. The engagement in Bolgatanga forms part of the CRC’s Northern Belt consultations, which are aimed at gathering inputs from citizens on proposed constitutional reforms.

According to the statement, invitations have already been extended to a wide range of stakeholders including traditional authorities, youth groups, women’s groups, civil society organisations, persons with disabilities, public servants, and other interest groups. The Committee is seeking a broad base of participation to ensure that the revised constitution reflects the voices and aspirations of all Ghanaians.

“The voice of every Ghanaian matters in shaping a constitutional framework that reflects our collective values, aspirations, and the future direction of our country,” the statement emphasized.

The public engagements are a critical component of the CRC’s mandate to create a more inclusive, transparent, and forward-looking constitutional structure for Ghana. Participants are expected to share views on issues ranging from governance and decentralization to human rights, electoral reforms, and the structure of the executive.

The 1992 Constitution, which ushered in the Fourth Republic, has been widely praised for fostering democratic stability. However, calls for reform have grown over the years, with concerns about excessive executive power, weak checks and balances, and limited citizen participation in governance.

The Committee urges residents of the Upper East Region to attend the session and contribute to the shaping of Ghana’s constitutional future.
