The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has reaffirmed his commitment to making the GJA more vibrant, appealing, and inclusive for media practitioners across the country.
Mr. Dwumfour made this declaration after officially filing his nomination to contest for a second term in the upcoming GJA national elections, scheduled for June 30, 2025. Speaking on his achievements over the past three years, he noted that the association has experienced significant transformation under his leadership, and now needs to consolidate and maintain that progress.
GJA’s Growing Appeal Among Journalists
Addressing GJA members in the Upper East Region, Mr. Dwumfour expressed confidence in his leadership and pledged to enhance the association’s appeal even further if given the mandate.
“Our administration has made the GJA more attractive—so much so that many media professionals are now eager to join and contest for leadership positions,” he said.
He emphasized that the GJA is gradually becoming a stronger and more respected institution, with members increasingly engaging in governance and development efforts.
Unprecedented Interest in GJA Leadership
Highlighting a major milestone, Mr. Dwumfour revealed that for the first time in the association’s history, over 49 candidates are contesting for regional executive positions—a record that speaks volumes about the renewed interest in GJA activities.
“Today, because of how appealing your beloved and respected association has become, we have over 49 members contesting for regional positions—an historic feat that has never happened before,” he noted.
In total, 13 national candidates and 49 regional candidates have been cleared to contest for various positions within the GJA.
Protecting Journalists and Upholding Press Freedom
Mr. Dwumfour also reaffirmed his commitment to promoting press freedom, journalist safety, and professional excellence, stating that under his leadership, the GJA will continue to stand tall and ensure that its members can work without fear or interference.
“We are focused on building a GJA that protects its members and gives them the space and confidence to perform their journalistic duties freely and professionally,” he added.
As the election date approaches, Mr. Dwumfour’s message is clear: he is ready to continue building on the momentum and make the GJA a beacon of progress, unity, and excellence in Ghana’s media landscape.
