The event attracted a wide array of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, officials from the Upper East Regional Health Directorate, representatives of the Ghana Health Service, members of the security services, government officials, and the general public.
The hospital was dedicated by the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, under the theme “Unleashed to Live a Life Worthy of Your Calling.”
Origin of the Bolgatanga Hospital Project
In his address, Apostle Nyamekye revealed that the idea to construct the hospital was conceived in 2018 following a tragic road accident involving a church pastor and his family. The incident exposed the urgent need for reliable, timely, and quality healthcare in the area. What began as a local concern soon evolved into a church-wide initiative, spearheaded by then Area Head, Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah, who is now the Head Pastor at Teshie-Nungua in the Greater Accra Region. His leadership was instrumental in mobilizing the necessary support and resources to bring the project to life.
State-of-the-Art Healthcare Facilities
The Pentecost Hospital Bolgatanga is equipped with a wide range of modern healthcare facilities and departments designed to meet the pressing health needs of the region. These include a fully equipped Outpatient Department (OPD) complete with an Emergency Unit, as well as male and female inpatient wards. The hospital also features modern consulting rooms, a maternity delivery ward, and a surgical theatre.
Additional essential services include a pharmacy/dispensary, a medical laboratory, a doctor’s office, a treatment and injection room, and a public health unit. For staff convenience and operations, the facility also houses washrooms, changing rooms, and a service power room. These comprehensive facilities are expected to significantly reduce the pressure on existing health centers in the region and improve access to emergency response and maternal healthcare.
Growing Church of Pentecost Healthcare Network
According to Apostle Nyamekye, the new hospital adds to the Church of Pentecost’s expanding health network, which now includes twelve operational healthcare centers across the country. These comprise four hospitals and eight clinics that collectively serve more than 234,000 outpatients annually.
“With a dedicated workforce of 1,199 staff, these facilities continue to provide vital healthcare services to communities across the country,” he said. He further highlighted that in 2024 alone, the Church invested over GH₵10.7 million into health support initiatives for its members. Additionally, five new health facilities, including a specialist hospital in Accra, are currently under construction to further expand their outreach and service delivery.
Part of “Possessing the Nations” Agenda
The commissioning of the Bolgatanga hospital marks a significant milestone in the Church’s broader “Possessing the Nations” agenda, which focuses on transforming society through impactful, faith-based social interventions.
Apostle Nyamekye acknowledged the collective efforts of various departments and partners that contributed to the successful completion of the project. He expressed his gratitude to the Executive Council of the Church of Pentecost, the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS), and the Estate and Project Development Department of the Church for their unwavering commitment and collaboration.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Executive Council of The Church of Pentecost, CHAG, PENTSOS, and the Estate and Project Development Department for their unwavering support. Their collective contributions have brought this vision to life,” he concluded.
