Paramount Chief of the Nangodi Traditional Area, Naba Yelzoya Kosom Asaga II, has urged healthcare professionals to provide compassionate, respectful, and professional care to patients at the newly commissioned Pentecost Hospital in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region.

Speaking at the hospital’s official commissioning on June 18, 2025, the Chief commended The Church of Pentecost for its continued commitment to community development, particularly in health service delivery. He described the new facility as a significant milestone and expressed optimism that it would become a benchmark for quality healthcare in the region and beyond.

Naba Asaga II emphasized the need for a cultural shift in patient care across Ghanaian healthcare institutions. He expressed concern over the poor customer service that many patients often experience in hospitals and clinics, citing inattentiveness and a lack of empathy among some health professionals, especially nurses.

“You go to the hospital and nurses are sometimes holding their phones. For those who use their phones to make references and improve patient care, that’s fine if it’s not excessive. But most of the time, they’re scrolling social media — TikTok, Facebook — while patients sit unattended. You greet, and they don’t even look at you. They say, ‘I’m coming,’ but never return,” he lamented.

The Chief called on staff at the Pentecost Hospital Bolgatanga to set a new example for healthcare delivery in the region. He urged them to approach their duties with empathy and attentiveness, making patients feel seen, heard, and respected from the moment they walk in.

“For me, this hospital should not just be a place where sickness is diagnosed and treated. Healing must begin the moment a patient enters — through kindness, a warm welcome, and a compassionate attitude,” he stated.

He further expressed his hope that the Pentecost Hospital will serve as a model facility — one that challenges and inspires neighboring healthcare centers to improve service standards and patient engagement.

“This hospital must become a showcase of excellence. Let it be a catalyst for reform and improved care in all other facilities,” Naba Asaga II added.
