The General Manager of A1 Radio and Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Chairman hopeful, Ebo Bruce Quansah, is advocating for the institution of a dedicated day to celebrate and empower women working in the media across the Upper East Region of Ghana.

According to him, although women in the regional media space are significantly fewer than their male counterparts, they possess immense potential to inspire change, foster development, and mentor future talent, particularly among young girls. Mr. Quansah believes that assigning a day for women in media to lead programming and outreach initiatives across various platforms will help ignite interest in journalism and broadcasting careers among the youth.

“These women are not many compared to the men. If you give them a day to run their activities, I’m telling you, they may go to schools and do advocacy. They may touch the hearts of younger ones who would like to join the media. They may even inspire teachers and others with communication skills to consider media work. Give them the chance,” he said.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Quansah emphasized that enhancing the visibility of female journalists and giving them leadership opportunities is essential for attracting and mentoring the next generation of media professionals. He noted that many talented individuals, including educators and professionals with a passion for communication, could be encouraged to explore careers in radio, television, digital media, and journalism if they see women thriving in those spaces.

“The few girls or women we have—let’s give them the chance to shine. Once they shine, others will see them and join. But if we have a few and we’re not giving them the opportunity, how do we expect them to grow?” he stressed.

Looking ahead to his GJA leadership ambitions, Mr. Quansah underscored the importance of collaboration with station managers, editors, and programme heads to create space for young media practitioners. He pledged to prioritize mentorship, career development, and skills training, reinforcing his belief that excellence in journalism is achieved through continuous learning and opportunity creation.
