Albert Sore elected as GJA Upper East Regional chairman

Albert Sore has been elected as the new Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) following a decisive victory in the regional elections held on Monday, 30th June 2025.

Sore secured 29 out of 44 total votes, defeating veteran journalist Ebo Bruce Quansah, who garnered 15 votes. The election was conducted at the Bolgatanga Municipal Electoral Commission Office and attracted active participation from journalists in good standing across the region.

The peaceful and transparent electoral process was supervised by the GJA Electoral Committee, which commended members for their professionalism and cooperation throughout the voting exercise.

In his victory speech, a visibly elated Albert Sore expressed deep appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to promote unity, enhance journalists’ welfare, and tackle the pressing issues confronting journalism in the Upper East Region.

“This victory is not just mine but for all journalists in the Upper East Region. I promise to work tirelessly to bring us together and address the challenges we face,” he said.

Outlining his leadership vision, Mr. Sore stressed the need for capacity-building programs, targeted training opportunities, and initiatives that will improve the professional standards of journalism in the region.

“We must prioritize training, welfare, and professionalism to elevate the standard of journalism here. Together, we can amplify our voices and serve our communities better,” he added.

His opponent, Ebo Bruce Quansah, graciously accepted the outcome and encouraged all members to rally behind the new chairman to build a more vibrant and united media fraternity in the region.

Several stakeholders, including media executives, civil society organizations, and communication professionals, have congratulated Albert Sore on his election, expressing optimism that his leadership will drive positive change within the media landscape in Northern Ghana.
