The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Ghana, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering 700 bursary opportunities to help young people access tertiary education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The opportunities under Phase II of the FAWE Mastercard Foundation Programme include 500 bursaries for young people who missed tertiary admission requirements because of a weak grade in one core subject and 200 fully funded bursaries for qualified students pursuing STEM-related programmes at partner Technical Universities.
Eighty per cent of the opportunities are reserved for females and 20 per cent for males, with additional consideration for persons with disabilities, refugees, internally displaced persons and young people from marginalised backgrounds.
Under the Bridging/Remedial Learning Programme, 500 bursary opportunities are available to young people who completed WASSCE or Certificate II and passed their elective subjects but obtained a D7 or pass in one core subject. The equivalent of a D7 applies to TVET applicants.
The programme is intended to provide a pathway to tertiary education for academically capable young people who would otherwise be unable to gain admission because of the deficient core subject.
Successful applicants will receive conditional or probationary admission to selected partner universities to pursue STEM degree programmes.
They will also receive structured remedial support to improve their performance in the deficient core subject and prepare to resit the relevant Private WASSCE or Certificate II examination.
Applicants who subsequently meet the required entry conditions will have their admission regularised and continue their tertiary education.
FAWE Ghana is also offering 200 fully funded bursaries under its Third Cohort Bursary Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The bursaries will support young people to pursue STEM-related programmes at FAWE Ghana’s partner Technical Universities, leading to either a three-year Higher National Diploma or a two-year Diploma.
The opportunity targets brilliant but financially disadvantaged young people who have completed WASSCE or Certificate II and qualify for tertiary education.
Applicants for the two programmes must generally be between 15 and 25 years old at the time of application, demonstrate financial need and come from one of the 16 regions listed in the application form.
They must also be willing to pursue STEM-related programmes at approved partner institutions and contribute to their communities through service and development.
Applicants for the Third Cohort Bursary Programme must additionally have gained admission to one of FAWE Ghana’s listed partner institutions.
Between 5 per cent and 15 per cent of the opportunities are allocated to persons with disabilities, refugees and internally displaced persons.
While the Bridging/Remedial Learning Programme targets students who need to improve one core subject to satisfy tertiary entry requirements, the Third Cohort Bursary Programme is for applicants who already qualify for tertiary education and have secured admission to an approved partner Technical University.
FAWE Ghana is encouraging eligible young people, parents, caregivers, teachers and community leaders to help potential beneficiaries take advantage of the opportunities.
The programme seeks to reduce financial and academic barriers to tertiary education while expanding access to STEM programmes, particularly for girls and other underserved young people.
