Ghana is set to take center stage in Africa’s digital education revolution as the Ministry of Education officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with eLearning Africa, confirming the country’s role as the host of the 18th edition of the prestigious eLearning Africa Conference in 2026.
The landmark agreement was finalized during a brief but significant ceremony at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Education, representatives from eLearning Africa, and key stakeholders in the education and technology sectors.
Scheduled to take place from June 3 to 5, 2026, the conference is expected to attract global attention and participation, spotlighting Ghana’s progress in education technology (EdTech), digital learning, and education policy innovation. The event will bring together education ministers, EdTech innovators, researchers, development partners, and investors from across Africa and beyond.
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, hailed the development as a major milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.
“This agreement reflects our broader national commitment to embrace innovation in education and strengthen Ghana’s leadership in the digital learning space,” Dr. Apaak stated. “We look forward to welcoming Africa and the world to Accra in 2026.”
He emphasized that the 2026 eLearning Africa Conference would serve as a platform to showcase national achievements under flagship initiatives like the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and the Education Strategic Plan (2018–2030). These initiatives, supported by strong international partnerships, are significantly transforming the country’s learning landscape.
Dr. Apaak also highlighted the impact of the SCALE initiative, which leverages global partnerships with institutions such as the Jacobs Foundation, Botnar Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation, and leading cocoa and chocolate companies. Through this collaboration, GALOP is currently supporting over 15,000 schools, benefiting more than 2 million learners and 64,000 teachers across Ghana.
“This is more than just hosting a conference,” Dr. Apaak remarked. “It’s an opportunity to demonstrate how innovation, technology, and collaboration can drive meaningful, measurable progress in education across Africa.”
The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Education and eLearning Africa, as Ghana prepares to host what is widely regarded as the continent’s largest and most influential conference on ICT for education, training, and skills development.
