The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has reiterated his commitment to addressing solid and liquid waste challenges in the region through a strategic partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a leading waste management company.
Speaking at the official commissioning of three new skip trucks for the region by Zoomlion, the Minister commended the company for its consistent role in promoting sanitation and public hygiene in Ghana.
“Zoomlion has become a household name in the Upper East Region, and that tells you the impact they have made in creating a culture of cleanliness,” Hon. Atanga said.
Enforcing Sanitation By-laws in Districts
Hon. Atanga emphasized that Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) have been tasked to strictly enforce sanitation by-laws to maintain public cleanliness.
“Districts will come up with specific by-laws and inspect areas that are not clean. Those found culpable will face consequences. We must support the assemblies and ourselves by keeping our environment clean,” he stated.
He praised Zoomlion Ghana for its psychological influence on citizens, stating that many people associate the company’s name with hygiene and discipline.
“People now call themselves Zoomlion because they associate the name with cleanliness. That tells you the level of impact,” he noted.
Zoomlion Trucks to Boost Regional Clean-up Efforts
The Upper East Regional Coordinator of Zoomlion Ghana, Ishmael Ashitey, noted that the new skip trucks are part of the President’s national sanitation reset agenda, aimed at enhancing waste management across the country.
“We have imported 200 skip trucks and received 100 so far. Upper East has taken delivery of three, and more will follow,” he said. “We’ve zoned the region into three operational areas, and these trucks will support community clean-ups and other sanitation projects.”
Ashitey assured that the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) will be involved in the deployment and monitoring of the trucks to ensure efficiency and accountability.
“With stakeholder support, the Upper East Region can become one of the cleanest in Ghana,” he added.
Public Support Essential to Sanitation Success
Also present at the commissioning was Issaka Abubakar, General Manager of Zoomlion Ghana, who highlighted the company’s broader mission to tackle waste pollution across Africa.
“Zoomlion operates in 25 African countries with a shared mission: fighting waste pollution. But we cannot succeed without public support,” Abubakar said.
He urged residents to take ownership of their surroundings by adhering to sanitation regulations and participating actively in clean-up activities.
