A Cargo truck transporting timber from the southern parts of Ghana towards Bolgatanga on Friday, overturned, blocking portions of the Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway at Winkogo in the Talensi district of the Upper East region. The situation caused heavy traffic, but the police officers intervened by directing traffic.
Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugri, has directed the Talensi District Assembly to gravel the section of the road. Residents say the area developed large potholes, which caused the cargo truck to overturn, blocking the road and resulting in heavy traffic.
Speaking to A1 NEWS, Akolgo Edward Azuah, Assembly Member for the Winkongo Electoral Area and the Talensi District Assembly Presiding Member, attributed the incident to the deplorable nature of the highway.
“We are happy with the minister’s directive. Something has to be done so that there will be free movement. So we are all here helping to direct traffic.”
While applauding the Regional Minister, Mr. Akolgo called for a permanent solution to address the nature of the road to avoid future incidents.
