The Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has demonstrated his continued commitment to journalism and media development by supporting the 4th Edition of the Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards with a GH¢5,000 contribution.
The event is scheduled to take place on October 10, 2025, in Bolgatanga.
Speaking to reporter Moses Apiah about his support, Dr. Apaak emphasized the importance of the initiative, highlighting his personal connection to the profession.
“I am one of you myself. I practised and later managed Radio Universe. The likes of Raymond Acquah and many others are my trainees,” he recalled.
He noted that journalism plays a critical role in national development and stressed that empowering practitioners through such awards is vital for upholding media standards and ethics.
Receiving the support, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the GJA, Albert Sore, expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Apaak for his generosity.
“This year’s awards ceremony is special to us because it will be the first organised by the newly elected regional executive. We are committed to maintaining the standards set in previous events, if not raising them higher,” he said.
Mr. Sore also commended other sponsors who have already come on board, including the Ghana Shippers Authority and long-time supporter, the SHARE Project of WaterAid Ghana.
“We continue to be grateful to them for all their sponsorship in previous years, and we eagerly await their confirmation for this year’s event,” he added.
The Regional Chairman further appealed to more institutions and individuals to support the 2025 Upper East GJA Awards, stressing that such contributions directly impact journalism and media work in the region.
The Upper East GJA Awards remain a prestigious platform that celebrates excellence in journalism, encourages professionalism, and inspires practitioners to contribute positively to the growth of the region and Ghana at large.
With Dr. Apaak’s support and the growing partnership of sponsors, this year’s event promises to be a landmark celebration of impactful storytelling and the power of the media to transform society.
