Women in Broadcasting (WIB), a network of female media practitioners in the Upper East Region, has supported pupils in selected basic schools with 6,000 exercise books and textbooks. The gesture formed part of the group’s Back-to-School Project, which aims to encourage school attendance and ease the financial burden on families in the region.
The donation exercise was made possible through sponsorship from the Happyman Foundation, which boosted the group’s initial target of 3,000 exercise books to 6,000. Beneficiary schools included Gaari Gbane Primary, Zuarungu Moshie Primary, Apuwonzui Primary, Yua Primary, Tahiriya Primary, Bolga Experimental Primary School, and Azaalonge Primary, where more than 1,000 books and textbooks were distributed. The kindergarten department of Azaalonge Primary also received 200 exercise books.
Other partners who contributed to the initiative included AquaBolg Natural Mineral Water, Global Poly Ghana Limited, Nana K Home Touch Restaurant, V3 Educational Bookshop, as well as individual supporters. WIB members also played a direct role by personally committing to donate a pack or more of exercise books.
The initiative was led by the group’s president, Humul Khrusum Tahiru, with the full support of members, who expressed their commitment to sustaining similar interventions in the future. Teachers and pupils at the beneficiary schools welcomed the support with gratitude, acknowledging the positive impact such contributions would have on teaching and learning.
WIB expressed appreciation to all sponsors and encouraged them to continue supporting educational development in the region. The group further expressed hope of extending similar assistance to more schools across the Upper East Region in the coming years.
