Residents and health officials across the Upper East Region have expressed satisfaction with Zoomlion Ghana Limited’s ongoing disinfection and fumigation exercise, which has been widely credited with reducing the risk of preventable diseases.

The exercise is done in collaboration with the assemblies directly supervise by the district assembly environmental officers

Now in its third quarter, the exercise has been carried out in all 15 Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) of the region.

It covers a wide range of public facilities, including basic school urinals and toilets, communal container sites, abattoirs, public toilets, CHPS compounds, and even official residences of District Chief Executives (DCEs) and coordinating directors.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Rahim Seinu Alhassan, Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, underscored the importance of the program.

“This exercise is about prevention. By fumigating and disinfecting these critical spaces, we aim to control the spread of diseases that can easily be avoided. Our responsibility as Zoomlion is to complement the work of the health directorate by creating cleaner, safer environments for all residents,” he said.

Residents in various communities have welcomed the intervention, praising its visible impact. “We used to worry a lot about the conditions around the public toilets and container sites, but this exercise has brought relief,” a resident in Bolgatanga shared.

Another beneficiary described the initiative as “life-saving,” noting that it has significantly reduced foul odors and flies in the environment.

Environmental health officials also commended Zoomlion for the consistency and thoroughness of the exercise. They, however, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between communities, local assemblies, and private sanitation companies to sustain the gains made.

Mr. Alhassan disclosed that the exercise, which has been running for three months, is on track to meet its target by the end of 2025. He urged the public to complement the initiative by maintaining proper sanitation practices.
