The Bihinaab of Sheaga, Bihinaab Tobig Doubil, has dismissed allegations that he took part in a protest organised by the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI) against Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
On August 30, TAMCI members staged a demonstration accusing the mining company of sidelining Talensi indigenes in its recruitment process. Cardinal Namdini Limited, however, denied the claims, insisting that 56 percent of its workforce are Talensi natives.
Despite this clarification, rumors spread that the Sheaga Bihinaab was present at the protest. Speaking exclusively to A1 Radio, Bihinaab Doubil refuted the allegations, stressing that he neither received prior information about the protest nor participated in it.
“Nobody has ever called me for a meeting on the demonstration, and I did not take part in it. Nobody sat at the palace of the Sheaga chief to talk about a demonstration for which we joined. Our assemblyman has always been the one who informs us on issues of the community, and the assemblyman did not inform me about any demonstration. All that I want to tell the public is that I did not take part in any demonstration. So, I want to state categorically again that I did not attend or participate in any demonstration organised by the TAMCI group,” he declared.
He is therefore daring anyone with information, either by videos or pictures of him involved in the protest, to prove or otherwise remain silent.
“I am daring anyone with evidence — whether videos or pictures — showing me at that demonstration to present it. Otherwise, such individuals should remain silent,” he declared.
The Bihinaab of Sheaga further appealed to the youth of Talensi to channel their concerns through the Paramount Chief, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, whom he described as approachable and open to development ideas.
“The Paramount Chief has a listening ear. I urge the youth, chiefs, Tindaamas, and the entire people of Talensi to work with him for the progress of our district. Whatever discussion that will foster the development of Talensi, please, let us draw closer to him and discuss with him, and he would listen to us,” Bihinaab Doubil advised.
