The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla, Ebenezer Ndebill, has announced that plans are at an advanced stage to upgrade the Binaba and Sapelega Health Centres into fully functional public clinics.
This strategic initiative is intended to decongest the overburdened Zebilla District Hospital and improve healthcare access for residents in remote parts of the constituency.
According to the MP, the decision follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the health sector. He revealed that the Zebilla District Hospital, currently the sole referral facility in the area, is struggling to cope with a massive surge in patient numbers.
This increase is largely linked to ongoing insecurity in Bawku and its environs, which has forced many residents to seek medical care in the relatively safer Zebilla constituency.
“As it stands now, Zebilla District Hospital is the only developed referral hospital in the constituency. Apart from that, we have the Binaba Health Centre and the Sapelega Health Centre, which are both located at the extreme ends of the constituency,” Mr. Ndebilla stated in an interview with A1 Radio.
“My plan, as I work with stakeholders, is to upgrade these two health centres into public clinics to ease the pressure on Zebilla District Hospital.”
The MP emphasized that the upgrades would serve a dual purpose. Firstly, they would bring quality healthcare services closer to the doorsteps of residents in Binaba and Sapelega, reducing the risks and hardships of long-distance travel for medical attention. Secondly, the enhanced facilities would be able to handle a greater number of cases at the local level.
This would allow the Zebilla District Hospital to dedicate its limited resources and expertise to more complex referral cases, ultimately improving overall healthcare delivery.
While outlining his vision, Mr. Ndebilla made a strong appeal for support from the government and development partners.
He stressed that investing in health infrastructure is not just a development priority but a critical necessity to safeguard lives and ensure equitable access to healthcare for every constituent, especially in these challenging times.
