The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) has extended warm congratulations to the University for Development Studies (UDS) for emerging as the winners of the 2025 World University Football Championship held in China.
In a statement signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Luguterah, CKT-UTAS described the feat as “a monumental achievement” that has not only brought pride to Ghana but also to the entire African continent, as UDS became the first African university to lift the coveted trophy.
“This well-deserved milestone is worth celebrating not only because it marks the first time an African University has lifted the coveted trophy, but also because this monumental feat, which was birthed out of the unrelenting resilience of our gallant players and visionary technical team, confers on Ghana and Africa an unprecedented honour and recognition in world university football,” the statement read.
Prof. Luguterah noted that as an institution carved out of UDS, CKT-UTAS shares common values and aspirations with its parent university and therefore takes immense pride in the achievement. He added that the entire CKT-UTAS community was particularly thrilled by the resilience of Team UDS, especially during the semifinals against Granada University of Spain and the finals against Paulista University of Brazil.
“Once again, we doff our hats to you on this incredible accomplishment,” Prof. Luguterah said, stressing that the victory was a source of inspiration for other Ghanaian and African universities to aim higher on the global stage.
UDS’s triumph at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) World Championship is being celebrated nationwide, with many describing it as a landmark achievement in Ghana’s tertiary sports history.
