Ayire Clinic in Bolgatanga has joined the global observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September with a strong call for early detection, timely treatment, and expanded public awareness to save young lives.
Each year, an estimated 1,200 children under the age of 15 in Ghana develop cancer. Yet many cases go undetected or are diagnosed too late, making treatment more difficult and reducing survival chances.
The clinic emphasized that when childhood cancers are caught early and treated appropriately, most children can survive and thrive.
The management at Ayire Clinic urged the public to stay alert to warning signs and symptoms, including unexplained swelling, persistent fever, weight loss, or prolonged illness, and to seek prompt medical care. The clinic also highlighted the need to strengthen referral systems and provide compassionate support for children and families battling cancer.
Parents, caregivers, teachers, and community leaders are being urged to play an active role in spotting potential symptoms early and facilitating access to care. The clinic also called on health services, community organizations, and development partners to deepen collaboration in the fight against childhood cancer.
