The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Roland Atanga Ayoo, has launched a large-scale evacuation of accumulated waste in the township as part of efforts to improve sanitation and promote a cleaner environment.
According to the Bolgatanga Municipal Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, more than five unauthorized refuse dumping sites across the municipality have become health hazards, posing significant risks to residents.
In response, and driven by his commitment to sanitation, Mr. Ayoo on Wednesday led an initiative to clear the waste and transport it to the official dumping site at Sherigu.
Speaking during the exercise, the MCE underscored the importance of maintaining a clean environment for public health.
“I felt there was a need to mobilize resources for this evacuation. The health of human beings is very important, and we can only achieve that when our surroundings are clean and safe for habitation. We must ensure our environment is maintained for all of us,” he said.
Mr. Ayoo disclosed that the exercise was carried out in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana, which provided vehicles stationed in Talensi, Bongo, and Bolgatanga to support the evacuation.
He added that the initiative followed improvements at the Sherigu dumping site, where accumulated waste had been pushed back to create more space for vehicles to enter and unload properly.
Assembly Member for the Daweo–Pobaga Electoral Area, Alhassan Washiru Choumougou, expressed satisfaction that the clean-up covered his area. While commending the MCE’s efforts, he stressed the need for sustained action to address poor sanitation practices affecting the community.
