Mentors at the ninth edition of Barcamp Bolga on September, 27 praised the event as a life-changing platform for young people in the Upper East Region, commending organizers for fostering innovation, impact and skills development.
The 2025 gathering, themed “Impact | Innovation | Quality”, was organized by the GhanaThink Foundation, a youth-driven social enterprise that has been building networks of changemakers across Ghana since 2008.
GhanaThink is known for initiating the Barcamp Ghana program, which has staged over 130 Barcamps in all 16 regions, connecting thousands of young people to mentors, employers, and opportunities.
This year’s Barcamp Bolga attracted about 200 participants — including students, professionals, and entrepreneurs — who engaged in breakout sessions on youth empowerment, clean air solutions, tourism, and hospitality, alongside the signature “speed mentoring” sessions that paired participants with resourceful professionals.
Mentors described the event as a “game changer” for youth in the region. They noted that participants demonstrated readiness to drive positive change in society when guided by mentorship.
Prisca Naambome Yenzie, Upper East Regional Director of Museums, who mentored on enhancing Ghana’s cultural policy through museums, said the platform gives young people an invaluable boost.
“It is not easy to get to the high level you want, but it comes with acceptance, choices and guidance. Young people must focus on making the right decisions. That is why I am excited about this program,” she said.
Lucas Yelabeyani Yirezeme of ABSA Bank Ghana’s Northern Sector, who mentored on building a banking career and entrepreneurship, said the impact was immediate.
“Most of our audience today had a complete mindset shift. Many are already working on projects, not just dreaming of a career. That, for me, is a good sign,” he noted.
Fati Abigail Abdulai, Executive Director of Widows and Orphans Movement (WOM) and CEO of Atarrah Ghana Limited, mentored on impactful enterprises for sustainability. She urged young people to see themselves as capable agents of change.
“As young people, it’s high time we changed our mindset, knowing that we are capable of doing anything and achieving anything. This is a good opportunity for us,” she encouraged.
The event was supported by partners including Clean Air Fund, North Sight Images, GrowAfrica For Me, Dansyn Innovation Social Organisation, Dreamz FM, A1 Radio, TAP Hotel, and Bel Beverages.
Barcamp Bolga, part of the nationwide Barcamp Ghana movement, continues to provide mentorship, networking, and skills-sharing opportunities for young people, bridging gaps between education and employment while fueling grassroots innovation.
