13 journalists nominated for 4th Upper East GJA Awards

The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced nominees for the 4th Regional GJA Awards, slated for Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at the BlueSky Hotel in Kumbosco in the Bolgatanga East District.

Thirteen journalists from various media houses across the region have been nominated for honors recognizing journalistic excellence and integrity. The awards ceremony, themed “Upholding Public Trust: The Role of the Media in Promoting Accountable Governance in the Upper East Region,” will celebrate outstanding contributions to accountable governance and impactful storytelling.

The Awards Vetting Committee, chaired by Professor David Millar with support from Dr. Samuel Adadi Akapule and Ms. Fatima Anafu-Astanga, shortlisted the following nominees: Nicholas Azebire (Dreamz FM), Halidu Dasmani (Adom TV), Nelson Jose Abagna (GBC), Humul-Khrusum Tahiru (A1 Radio), Moses Apiah (A1 Radio), Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen (Apexnewsgh), Gilbert Azeem Tiroog (GNA), David Azure (A1 Radio), Gladys Apuweni (GBC), Joshua Asaah (A1 Radio), Castro Senyalah (TV3), Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith (A1 Radio), and Peter Agengre (GBC).

In addition to individual journalist awards, the event will recognize exceptional individuals and organizations that have contributed to regional media growth and community development.

The Bolgatanga Technical University, in collaboration with the regional GJA, will also honor Ms. Caroline Abisiku as the Student Journalist of the Year.

This year’s awards are led by WaterAid Ghana under the SHARE Project, with sponsorship from the Ghana Shippers Authority, KACSTONE Records, Paga Youth Movement, RISE-Ghana, Endswell Pharmacy Ltd, and MTN Ghana, among others.

Regional GJA Secretary Anthony Adongo Apubeo expressed gratitude to all sponsors and stakeholders for their continued support in promoting professionalism and accountability in journalism.
