Five journalists from A1 Radio have been nominated for the 4th Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, set for Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at the BlueSky Hotel in the Bolgatanga East District.
The nominees — Humul-Khrusum Tahiru, Moses Apiah, David Azure, Joshua Asaah, and Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith — represent nearly half of all journalists shortlisted this year. The nominations highlight A1 Radio’s continued leadership in quality, ethical, and impactful journalism within the region.
This year’s awards, themed “Upholding Public Trust: The Role of the Media in Promoting Accountable Governance in the Upper East Region,” will recognize journalists and institutions advancing public accountability through their work.
The Awards Vetting Committee, chaired by Professor David Millar with Dr. Samuel Adadi Akapule and Ms. Fatima Anafu-Astanga, reviewed submissions from across the region before naming 13 finalists from outlets including Dreamz FM, Adom TV, GBC, Apexnewsgh, TV3, and the Ghana News Agency.
The Student Journalist of the Year award will go to Ms. Caroline Abisiku of Bolgatanga Technical University.
Lead sponsor WaterAid Ghana, under the SHARE Project, joins partners such as the Ghana Shippers Authority, RISE-Ghana, KACSTONE Records, and MTN Ghana in supporting this year’s event.
Regional GJA Secretary Anthony Adongo Apubeo commended the finalists and said the association remains committed to promoting integrity, professionalism, and excellence among journalists in the Upper East Region.
