The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Roland Atanga Ayoo, has called on residents to take collective responsibility for maintaining good sanitation practices as Ghana marked National Sanitation Day on Saturday.
The nationwide exercise, held on October 4, 2025, forms part of the government’s renewed “Clean Up Ghana” campaign aimed at improving hygiene and environmental cleanliness across the country.
Speaking during the Bolgatanga edition of the exercise, Mr. Ayoo emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared duty that must extend beyond special occasions.
“As much as the ‘Clean Up Ghana’ initiative is important, residents must ensure that their surroundings remain clean at all times,” he said. “A dirty environment promotes diseases, and we owe it to ourselves as a collective responsibility to keep our streets, schools, churches, markets, and stations clean and healthy for our own growth.”
The cleanup exercise, led by the MCE and Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, saw massive participation from institutions including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Zoomlion Ghana, Assembly staff, students, political parties, and community members.
Mr. Ayoo revealed plans to rotate the monthly sanitation exercise across communities within the municipality. “As an Assembly, we’ll begin rotating the activities—one month in Sumbrungu, another in Yorogo, and so on,” he explained.
MP Isaac Adongo also encouraged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit rather than waiting for organized campaigns. Meanwhile, Upper East Regional Zoomlion Coordinator, Ismael Ashitey, commended the government for sustaining the National Sanitation Day initiative.
