Chiana-Paga MP accuses opponents in NDC and NPP of attempting to sabotage his work

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Chiana-Paga Constituency, HNikyema Billa Alamzy, has alleged that some individuals within his own party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are making deliberate attempts to sabotage his work in the constituency.

According to the MP, his recent initiative to support women across the constituency with financial assistance has been met with misinformation and political mischief from his opponents.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Alamzy explained that the initiative was aimed at empowering women in both farming and small-scale businesses to improve their livelihoods and those of their families.

“We started with the women’s support. We selected some women who are into farming and some who are into small and medium enterprises. Though the money is not much, we know that when you assist a woman, you are assisting the whole nation,” he said.

Under the programme, 220 women across the constituency received 2,000 Ghana cedis each, amounting to 440,000 Ghana cedis. The MP noted that the funds were meant for investment in productive ventures — not for consumption — and that his team would monitor how the women utilized the support.

However, he expressed disappointment that some individuals sought to politicize the initiative.

“People came out saying we selected only NDC women, some even went on social media to claim we gave it to branch women organizers. But that’s not true. We have 133 polling stations and 133 women organizers, yet the beneficiaries were 220. Clearly, it’s not about party lines,” Mr. Alamzy clarified.

He said the support programme was part of a broader plan that combines social investment and infrastructure development, both of which, he argued, are crucial to improving living standards in the constituency.

“You cannot do infrastructure alone and leave out social investment. That is not how to run a good country,” he emphasized.

The Chiana-Paga legislator further alleged that both his political opponents in the NPP and some disgruntled elements within the NDC were behind the false claims.

“You don’t need a soothsayer to tell you where these attacks are coming from. Definitely, most are from the NPP. But even within the NDC, there are people who perceive themselves as rivals and wish for you to fail,” he said.

When asked by the reporter, Joshua Asaah, if he felt it was too early in his tenure to face such opposition, Mr. Alamzy said internal and external resistance were a normal part of politics.

“In politics, the very day you win, others begin campaigning against you. That is how politics works. Once you are in office, there will always be people — even within your own party — who want to see you fail,” he remarked.

Despite the challenges, the MP reaffirmed his commitment to continue delivering on his promises, supporting women and youth, and advancing development projects across the constituency.
