A1 Radio has once again solidified its reputation as the pacesetter in journalistic excellence in the Upper East Region, sweeping multiple honors at the 4th Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held over the weekend.

The Bolgatanga-based station dominated the night with an impressive showing, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to ethical, impactful, and community-centered journalism. The awards, which celebrate outstanding media practitioners in the region, saw A1 Radio journalists clinching top honors across diverse categories that highlight both individual brilliance and the collective strength of the newsroom.

Humul Khrusum Tahiru emerged as one of the evening’s standout journalists, winning both the Female Journalist of the Year and Gender Reporter of the Year awards. Her recognition, marking the second time she has been named Female Journalist of the Year, underscores her dedication to amplifying women’s voices and shedding light on gender-related issues in the region.

Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith was honored as the Finance and Economics Reporter of the Year, recognizing his in-depth storytelling and ability to simplify complex economic issues for the public. Joshua Asaah earned the title of Investigative Reporter of the Year for his consistent commitment to uncovering the truth and advancing accountability through fact-based reporting. David Azure, making a remarkable return to the awards stage, won Agriculture Reporter of the Year, while Moses Apiah secured double honors as Health Reporter of the Year and Climate Change Reporter of the Year, reinforcing his versatility and strong focus on public interest journalism.

These victories reaffirm A1 Radio’s position as a powerhouse of media excellence in northern Ghana, nurturing journalists who consistently produce stories that inform, inspire, and drive development conversations.

Reacting to the station’s resounding success, General Manager Ebo Bruce Quansah praised the team for their hard work and consistency. “Finally the GJA Awards night is over, and once again, A1 Radio has taken the top position again, getting more winners. Congratulations to all award winners. You all deserve your wins,” he said.

Mr. Quansah singled out the perseverance and growth of the award-winning journalists, adding, “I am particularly happy with the return of David Azure; when you fall and rise, you can walk again. For the second time, Humul Khrusum Tahiru has won the Female Journalist of the Year. This should be an inspiration to other females here. It is possible—start with the first step and the others will follow. Joshua Asaah and his brother Moses have been very consistent. Mark Smith had his first award, and I pray he stays on the list.”

He further expressed optimism about the station’s future, urging the team to continue working with humility and dedication. “It’s my prayer that God grants us all the spirit of selflessness to serve A1 Radio, to possibly grab national awards and opportunities for ourselves and the station. I wish all award winners well, more grease to their elbows, and may this be an inspiration for others. Management is proud of you all,” he said.

With these wins, A1 Radio not only cements its legacy as the leading voice of credible journalism in the Upper East Region but also sets a new benchmark for excellence in Ghana’s regional media landscape.
