Veteran journalist and former Upper East Regional GJA Chairman, William Jalulah, has urged media practitioners in the region to focus their reporting on critical sectors that drive community development and public welfare.

Speaking to A1 Radio after receiving a long-service award at the 4th Upper East Regional GJA Awards, Jalulah emphasized the need for journalists to look beyond daily politics and highlight issues that affect livelihoods.

“I want to urge my colleagues to continue to prioritize the needs of the region in critical areas such as health, agriculture, trade and commerce, tourism, arts and culture, and education,” he said.

He further called for increased attention to road safety, describing it as an often-overlooked issue that directly impacts productivity and quality of life.

“Road safety affects all of us — it’s about our families, our communities, and the development of our region,” he noted.

Jalulah, who previously served as General Manager of A1 Radio, also reminded journalists to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in their work. “In all of these, let us continue to uphold professionalism in the interest of our society,” he added.

He said the media remains one of the most powerful tools for social transformation and urged journalists to use their platforms to inform, educate, and inspire progress across the Upper East Region.

This year’s awards was on the theme: “Upholding Public Trust: The Role of the Media in Promoting Accountable Governance in the Upper East Region.”

The event had support from WaterAid Ghana under the Sexual Health and Reproductive Education (SHARE) project, Paga Youth Movement, Cardinal Namdini Mining Company Ltd, Kacstone Records, Ghana Shippers’ Authority, and Rural Initiatives for Self-Empowerment (RISE) Ghana.
