The Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Isaac Adongo, has fired back at critics who are urging him to step down after serving three terms, accusing some of them of campaigning against him.
Mr. Adongo questioned the logic behind such calls, citing examples of other long-serving MPs, including the current Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who has served five terms and is seeking a sixth.
“Do I look old? Well, my own boss, the Finance Minister, he served for five terms. He is going for a sixth term. Has he stopped? I came to meet him. Honorable Ayine, how many terms? Has he stopped? Honorable Haruna, how many years? Why do you want me to stop at three?” he asked.
Speaking in an interview, the Bolgatanga Central MP emphasized that his experience and current position as Chairman of the Finance Committee have placed him in a strong position to drive development in his constituency, a role he remains focused on.
According to him, his position as Chairman of the Finance Committee provides him leverage to secure more projects and resources for his constituents, though he cautioned against premature celebration.
“Now, what you need to understand is that in this game, the longer you stay, not just staying longer but making an impact within the political space, the stronger you become and the better you are. We cannot all of a sudden take three steps forward and one step back to begin all over again,” he explained.
He added, “Where I have reached now, because I have been there for three terms, that’s why I was made Chairman of the Finance Committee. And as Chairman, very soon, when most of my requests to certain agencies start materializing, you’ll see the benefit of being in that position. I don’t talk about things that haven’t materialized.”
Mr. Adongo further reiterated his commitment to supporting the less privileged, saying he does so quietly without seeking publicity. He noted that helping others is part of his nature, not a political performance.
