The former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Builsa South, Daniel Kwame Gariba, has expressed determination to transform the political landscape of the Upper East Region, emphasizing that his ambition goes beyond winning the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Regional Secretary position.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Gariba said his vision is to build a stronger and more competitive party structure capable of breaking the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) dominance in the region.
“We must get to a point where after elections, the NDC doesn’t sweep all the seats. Out of 15 constituencies, we should be competing neck-and-neck. It’s doable, and I believe we can make it happen,” he stated confidently.
Mr. Gariba noted that the NPP’s past electoral successes in the Upper East Region prove that political balance is achievable with the right strategy and commitment.
“We have won seats in about nine constituencies before — Builsa North, Chiana-Paga, Navrongo Central, Talensi, Nabdam, Bawku, Zebilla, and Tempane. If we could do it then, we can do it again,” he added.
Drawing from his experience as DCE and local party leader in Builsa South, Mr. Gariba recounted how his leadership helped transform the NPP’s electoral performance in the constituency.
“When I came to Builsa South, the NPP was always number three — the NDC first, the PNC second, and we came third. But through strategic organization and hard work, we changed that narrative,” he said.
According to him, the 2020 and 2024 elections marked a turning point, as results became highly competitive and unpredictable.
“By 2020 and 2024, you couldn’t easily tell who would win — that’s the competitive spirit I want to bring to the region,” he explained.
Mr. Gariba believes that with renewed unity, grassroots empowerment, and effective communication, the NPP can reclaim its lost strength in the Upper East Region. He reiterated his commitment to mobilizing the youth, strengthening polling station structures, and ensuring that the party’s message resonates across all communities.
“Our goal should be to make the NPP a force to reckon with in every constituency,” he concluded.
