The Chiana Traditional Council, under the leadership of the Paramount Chief and President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Chiana Pio, Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III, has officially announced Saturday, January 3, 2026, as the date for this year’s grand celebration of the Chiana Fao Festival.
The final grand durbar of chiefs and people will take place in Chiana, the traditional capital of the Kassena-Nankana West District in the Upper East Region.
In a statement signed by Rusmond Didewuyem Anyinah, Secretary to the Chiana Pio, the Council described the Fao Festival as a time-honoured cultural celebration that unites citizens at home and abroad, government officials, development partners, and well-wishers in a display of the community’s rich traditions and heritage.
“The Chiana Fao Festival provides a platform to reflect on our heritage, renew communal bonds, and display the cultural pride of our people through music, drumming, dance, and storytelling,” the statement said.
This year’s celebration will feature a series of pre-durbar activities, including traditional drumming and dancing, music and fashion shows, and sporting events. In addition, partnership dialogues with development partners will be organized to explore ways of accelerating development in the area while promoting unity and the preservation of cultural identity.
The Council extended an open invitation to all citizens of Chiana, both at home and abroad, as well as tourists, friends, and well-wishers, to join in the festivities.
“Together, let us celebrate our past, embrace the present, and look forward to a brighter future,” the statement added.
The Chiana Traditional Council noted that further details about the programme lineup will be announced in due course and encouraged interested persons to contact 0206 12 9353 or 0246 17 6615 for additional information.
The Fao Festival remains one of northern Ghana’s most vibrant cultural events, symbolizing the unity, resilience, and identity of the Chiana people and serving as a rallying point for communal renewal and development.
