A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Upper East Region, Solomon Zinekena, says he is confident the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy will focus on national growth and the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Zinekena said the upcoming budget will continue the NDC government’s efforts to build a people-centered economy that promotes inclusiveness, stability, and sustainable development.

He noted that the approach to budget preparation under the current administration has been distinct, with active citizen participation ensuring that the needs of everyday Ghanaians are reflected in government policy.

“Our budget is going to be a budget for growth, a budget for the ordinary Ghanaian — a budget that would represent the general interest of the people,” he said. “The NDC government led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama did not put square pegs in round holes. He placed the right people in the right positions. You have seen a novelty in the preparation of the budget, especially in gathering information from ordinary people.”

According to him, the government’s strategy of engaging various groups such as market women, traders, and local business operators has been instrumental in shaping the 2025 budget to address real challenges facing citizens. He said the results of these engagements have been reflected in policies that have improved economic stability, reduced taxes, stabilized the cedi, and enhanced the general welfare of Ghanaians.

“You’ll realize that it was a budget that took away taxes, a budget that disciplined us fiscally, a budget that cushioned the ordinary Ghanaian. It’s a budget that led to the reduction of food prices, stabilized the cedi, supported economic growth, tackled unemployment, and addressed most of the challenging issues,” he explained.

He also cited progress made in reducing unemployment, paying and posting nurses who had been awaiting placements, and implementing measures that have contributed to the reduction of fuel and food prices.

Mr. Zinekena maintained that these achievements demonstrate the NDC government’s commitment to responsible governance, sound fiscal management, and the improvement of citizens’ living conditions.

He expressed optimism that the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, expected to be presented on Thursday, will build on these gains and deliver even greater benefits to Ghanaians across the country.
