President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the most talked about Wa-Han-Tumu-Navrongo road project in the Upper West Region.

The road project is part of the government’s Big Push infrastructure program aimed at improving the country’s road network.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the Region at Guli, a suburb of Wa on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, President Mahama emphasized the importance of quality construction and timely completion of the project.

He assured that the government has put in place measures to ensure that the contractors deliver quality work and complete the project within the stipulated time frame.

“We have pre-qualified the contractors and made sure that we brought some of the best contractors here to the Upper West Region. I can assure you that they’re going to do a very good quality job,” He stated.

President Mahama also highlighted the benefits of the project, including reduced travel time, lower transport costs, and improved access to education and healthcare. He urged the contractors to prioritize local content and ensure that the materials and services used for construction are sourced locally.

The project is expected to create over 2,500 direct jobs and 7,000 indirect jobs for the local community.

President Mahama said the government has allocated GH¢13.8 billion for the project this year and has reserved GH¢30.8 billion for next year’s budget.
