The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Aleemyarum, has made a passionate appeal for the construction of a mortuary at the district hospital.

Speaking to Bolga FM News, the chief emphasized the need for a modern mortuary facility to preserve the dignity of deceased individuals and alleviate the challenges faced by patients and their families.

According to the chief, the absence of a mortuary has caused serious inconveniences, with dead bodies sometimes left in wards awaiting collection by relatives. He stressed that a mortuary is an essential component of any health facility, especially one that admits patients.

“This is really a problem. It’s a problem because if you have a health facility where patients are admitted, there is always the likelihood that some deaths will occur. It’s not good when dead bodies are left lying in the ward waiting for families to come and collect them while other patients are still there. It’s highly inconveniencing to patients, and that’s why the mortuary is very important.”

Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Aleemyarum recalled his earlier efforts to draw attention to the issue when he served as an assembly member from 1994 to 2002.

He expressed disappointment that his proposal at the time was met with skepticism but said he remains committed to advocating for this crucial facility.

“Let me take you back some years. I was an assemblyman for the Borubisi Electoral Area from 1994 to 2002. During that time, I wrote to the assembly requesting the construction of a mortuary, drawing their attention to its importance. Do you know what happened? Most of my colleague assembly members mocked me, saying we were talking about development and I was talking about a mortuary. And I said, once we are living, we should also be thinking about death.”
