Residents of Chuchuliga in the Builsa North Municipality on Monday staged a protest against MY-TURN Construction Company Limited, accusing the firm of failing to honour a social contract agreement with the community.
Led by the Chief of Chuchuliga, Nab Francis Akanbegme Asangalisa, the demonstrators blocked access to the company’s premises, demanding that management fulfill commitments reportedly made before the community allocated land for the company’s operations.
According to residents, the company was granted a parcel of land in the Nanjuipung community in 2016 to serve as a parking area for heavy-duty machinery and vehicles. In return, MY-TURN Construction Company allegedly agreed to undertake specific social responsibilities to support local development.
Protesters say the company has since benefited from the land but has failed to deliver on any of the agreed obligations. “We gave them the land in good faith, expecting mutual respect and benefits. Today, we stand united to demand accountability,” the chief said.
W.O. (Rtd.) Jonathan Asangalisa, who presented a petition on behalf of the community, said repeated attempts to engage the company over the unfulfilled commitments had yielded no results.
Residents carried placards and chanted slogans as they blocked the company’s entrance, insisting that MY-TURN must meet its obligations before continuing operations in the area. The action halted movement in and out of the company’s yard, underscoring the community’s frustration.
As of the time of publication of this report, MY-TURN Construction Company Limited had not issued an official response to the allegations. Attempts to reach management for comment were unsuccessful.
