Our Lady of Lourdes Girls’ Senior High School in the Upper East Region has received a major boost to its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department following the donation of 20 brand-new computers by the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Aworigo.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve the teaching and learning of ICT for the more than 900 students enrolled in the school.
The all-girls institution—one of the few dedicated girl-child secondary schools in the region—has for years struggled with inadequate infrastructure and limited teaching resources. According to school authorities, these challenges have hindered the effective delivery of practical ICT lessons, an increasingly essential component of modern education.
Speaking during the installation of the computers, MP Simon Aworigo reiterated his commitment to supporting the school in addressing its infrastructural challenges. He explained that the donation forms part of his broader efforts to collaborate with key stakeholders to meet the pressing needs of educational institutions within his constituency.
“I am working closely with the relevant agencies and partners to ensure that the basic requirements of this school are met,” the MP assured students and staff. “This intervention is only the beginning. My office will continue to support initiatives that empower young girls and enhance their learning experience.”
Assistant Head of the school, Oscar Kubirizegah Abagali, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of management, staff, and students. He noted that the computers would greatly enhance practical ICT training, a critical skill for the girls as they prepare to compete in an increasingly digital world.
“We are grateful to the MP for this timely support,” Mr. Abagali said. “We will continue to knock on his door for more assistance because the needs of this school remain enormous.”
