November has been designated as Prematurity Month, a period set aside to raise awareness about preterm or premature children and the care they need to grow and thrive like any other child.
Various activities are organized annually to mark the occasion, including a radio talk show and an awareness float with educative placards.
On November 28, 2025, a float was held through the streets of Bongo, drawing participation from health personnel not only from Bongo District Hospital but also from other facilities in the area, as well as staff from the District Health Directorate.
The event concluded with a brief engagement with mothers of premature children, who attended with their children to show gratitude for the care and support received. The celebration included the cutting of a cake and popping of champagne, much to the delight of participants.
Head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Madam Abilba Jennifer, thanked hospital management for their support and emphasized the importance of antenatal care, urging pregnant mothers to prioritize attending regular check-ups.
