A team led by Ghanaian musician and philanthropist Samuel Asaa, popularly known as SamAiam, has encouraged Senior High School students in the Upper East Region to remain disciplined and stay away from drug abuse.
The U.S.-based artiste and his team toured seven Senior High Schools in the region, educating students on the dangers of indiscipline and substance abuse.
Addressing students at the various schools, Gladys Apuweni, the spouse of SamAiam, urged them not to give in to peer pressure or any influence that could lead them into drug abuse.
“So we are pleading with you to say no to any form of influence that will make you indisciplined or lead you into drug abuse, which can destroy your future,” she said.
The team highlighted the negative impact of drug abuse on academic performance, health, and future opportunities.
“Do not say ‘let me try and see.’ As students, your purpose here is to learn, become better in life, and grow into responsible future leaders,” Mrs. Apuweni added.
The schools visited included Bolgatanga Senior High, Bolgatanga Girls, Gambibigo, Kongo, Zuarungu, Zamse, and Gowrie Senior High Technical Schools.
Public Relations Officer of Team SamAiam, David Azure, encouraged students to set personal goals built on respect, self-control and law-abiding behaviour.
“As students, I urge you to set these goals for yourselves—respect, self-control, and discipline. Focus on them, and you will become better people in the future,” he said.
According to him, the team is determined to visit every secondary school in the Upper East Region to promote discipline and discourage drug abuse.
Secretary of Team SamAiam, Hannah Barribilla, also advised the students to take their studies seriously and avoid behaviours that could jeopardize their future.
School authorities and students praised the initiative, expressing hope that the sensitisation will help curb indiscipline and drug use among students.
The I’m a Winner hitmaker, known for his annual Asaa Festival and music concert, has reaffirmed his commitment to giving back to his community. He plans to support the youth and elderly across various sectors as part of his philanthropic work.
