Preparations are gaining momentum in Kandiga as residents and stakeholders gear up for the 31st December Dunseema Festival 2025, a major cultural celebration that brings together heritage, youth creativity and community pride among the Gurune-speaking people of Ghana’s Upper East Region.

This year’s festival, themed “Youth, Culture, and Community: The Spirit of Dunseema,” is shaping up to be one of the most vibrant editions yet, with new partnerships, cultural showcases and growing institutional support adding to the excitement.

A key highlight of the build-up is the collaboration between Versatile Modelling Agency and Spotless Event Planners (SEP), which will introduce the Black Star Experience – Wear Ghana Edition at the festival. The showcase is expected to blend fashion, artistry and cultural identity, offering night revelers a bold celebration of Ghanaian creativity through clothing and performance.

Chief Executive Officer of Versatile Modelling Agency, Mr. Rinna, said the agency’s involvement reflects its commitment to projecting the Upper East Region’s tangible and intangible heritage onto national and international platforms. He noted that the initiative will spotlight local designers, artisans and creative talents while celebrating the region’s unique cultural identity.

Beyond fashion and entertainment, official engagements around the festival are also intensifying. The Dunseema Festival 2025 Planning Committee has paid a courtesy visit to the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to formally inform the Regional Minister about the festival and invite him to serve as Special Guest of Honour.

The visit brought together key cultural and tourism institutions, including the Ghana Tourism Authority (Upper East Region), the Centre for National Culture, the Upper East Regional Museum, and a representative of Kacstone Records, all of whom pledged their support for the festival’s success.

Organizers say Dunseema Festival 2025 will once again highlight the rich heritage, unity and resilience of the Gurune-speaking people, while creating space for youth expression, tourism promotion and creative collaboration.

Held annually on Dec. 31 in Kandiga, the festival has grown into a major cultural fixture in the Upper East Region, attracting visitors, creatives and culture enthusiasts from across Ghana and beyond. It features traditional music and dance, fashion, storytelling, food, and community reflection, all rooted in Gurune identity.

As the countdown continues, Kandiga is already buzzing with anticipation. From planning meetings and artistic rehearsals to tourism promotion and community mobilization, stakeholders say all hands are on deck to deliver a historic and memorable Dunseema Festival 2025.
