Upper East Regional Chairman hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jerry Asamane, has emphasized the importance of resourcefulness, credibility, and strategic leadership in guiding the party, particularly while in opposition.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Asamane argued that leading the party in a politically challenging region like the Upper East requires not only a deep understanding of party structures but also strong financial and mobilization capacities.

“One must be resourceful both financially and knowledge-wise to be able to hold the party, especially when you are in opposition and in a region like ours,” he stated, adding that his track record within the party gives him confidence to lead as Regional Chairman.

Since joining the NPP, he has consistently contributed resources toward party activities in the region. He believes leadership goes beyond holding a position and must translate into practical support for both party members and structures. “You must be able to take care of the needs of individuals in the party and the party itself,” he noted, stressing that lessons learned under previous leadership, particularly during difficult opposition periods, would guide his approach.

Mr. Asamane was candid about the financial realities of party leadership, describing funding as one of the biggest challenges. He emphasized that while a chairman is not expected to personally finance everything, the ability to mobilize support is indispensable. “Nobody can lead a region without a good financial standing, especially in opposition,” he said, explaining that credibility and trust enable a leader to successfully appeal to supporters for assistance.

Drawing from his experience as a regional organizer, he recounted instances where party leaders had to rely on personal networks to transport logistics from Accra to the region. “If you are not credible, nobody will commit any amount to you,” he stressed, noting that trust determines whether people are willing to support the party through a leader.

Mr. Asamane also highlighted teamwork, delegation, and action-oriented leadership as hallmarks of his style. He described himself as someone who believes in movement, engagement, and humility, even in the face of hostility. “Leadership is about sharing responsibilities and facing challenges head-on,” he said.

Confident in his credentials, Mr. Asamane maintained that he has the experience to lead effectively, promising to bring energy, credibility, and inclusiveness to the NPP’s regional leadership if given the mandate.
