The Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Peter Laanchene Toobu, has announced the installation of 300 new street lights and the repair of about 100 defective ones across communities in the district as part of efforts to enhance security during the yuletide season.
In a Facebook post, the MP explained that the initiative is aimed at improving visibility and safety in communities, especially during the festive period when movement increases.
According to him, the exercise is a collective effort involving key stakeholders at the district level.
“Today, in collaboration with Richard Wulo, the District Chief Executive for Wa West, the technical team led by Hon. Ephraim Y. Dassah, Presiding Member of the District Assembly, embarked on a three-day move to brighten the streets of Wa West,” he stated.
Mr. Toobu emphasized that the installation of street lights is not only a short-term intervention for the Christmas season but also part of a broader vision to ensure inclusive development.
He expressed hope that when Ghana eventually achieves universal electricity coverage, all the more than 170 communities in Wa West will be fully connected and adequately lit.
The MP expressed appreciation to the District Chief Executive, Richard Wulo, for his continuous support, and commended Hon. Ephraim Y. Dassah and his technical team for their dedication, noting that this marks the third time they have undertaken such an exercise in the constituency.
He also acknowledged the crucial role played by Assembly Members whose electoral areas are benefiting from the initiative, describing their cooperation as vital to the project’s success.
The street lighting project is expected to significantly improve night-time security, reduce crime, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
Mr. Toobu concluded his message by wishing residents of Wa West a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reaffirming his commitment to working with all stakeholders to achieve shared development goals for the constituency.
