The Upper East Regional Secretary Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini, has sharply criticized the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, questioning his impact and relevance following the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Al-Khomeini accused the Bolgatanga Central MP of failing to translate his widely publicized economic expertise into tangible development for his constituents or a significant leadership role within the new NDC government.
He described Adongo as an “economic wizard who is nowhere to be found,” arguing that expectations created around his economic credentials have not been matched by results.
“You told the people you were the next Finance Minister. Today, you are not even a Deputy Finance Minister,” Mr. Al-Khomeini said, suggesting that Adongo’s own party does not consider his economic competence critical enough for a top role in managing the nation’s finances.
The NPP aspirant further downplayed Adongo’s work on parliamentary committees, stressing that committee membership is a routine responsibility of MPs and not necessarily evidence of exceptional performance. He questioned whether that was the level of representation the people of Bolgatanga Central were promised.
Expanding his criticism beyond Bolgatanga Central, Mr. Al-Khomeini challenged the overall performance of NDC MPs in the Upper East Region, where the party currently holds all 15 parliamentary seats.
He called on residents to critically assess the developmental record of their MPs instead of voting along party lines. “What are they really doing for their constituencies? Who among them even speaks consistently on the floor of Parliament to advance the interests of this region?” he asked.
According to him, the region must move away from what he described as “blind political loyalty” and begin voting based on competence, ideas, and track record. He argued that previous NPP MPs in the region left behind visible and lasting projects that, in his view, outweigh what current NDC MPs have delivered.
Mr. Al-Khomeini also criticized what he termed a culture of unfulfilled promises, citing repeated announcements of proposed projects such as colleges of education, which he contrasted with completed infrastructure under past administrations.
“The future of the Upper East Region cannot be mortgaged to the NDC,” he stressed, calling for serious self-reflection among voters ahead of future elections. He concluded by urging residents to prioritize development over party sentiment, insisting that meaningful progress must be the ultimate measure of political leadership.
