The Managing Director of the Irrigation Company of Upper Region (ICOUR), Dominic Anarigide, has received the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, at the company’s head office in Tono, in the Navrongo Municipality.

The visit was aimed at exploring broader institutional collaboration on crop farming within ICOUR’s irrigation schemes, building on an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on fish farming using the cage system at the Tono Dam.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest, including agricultural development and inmate rehabilitation through skills training.

Mr. Anarigide, in a post on his official Facebook page, expressed ICOUR’s readiness to deepen collaboration with state institutions to strengthen food production.
“We are committed to collaborating with institutions to boost food production,” he stated.

The Ghana Prisons Service is seeking to expand its agricultural activities and plans to roll out mechanised farming in 2026. The initiative is expected to improve conditions within prisons and equip inmates with practical skills for productive livelihoods after release.

ICOUR, which manages one of Ghana’s largest irrigation schemes spanning about 2,490 hectares, has indicated its willingness to partner with the Ghana Prisons Service to advance agricultural development.

The partnership, Mr. Anarigide noted, aligns with the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to increase food production and enhance national food security.
