The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, John Millim Nabwomya, has assured residents of the Upper East Region that government is taking steps to address the deplorable condition of the Winkogo section of the Bolgatanga–Tamale Highway.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, the DCE expressed concern about the impact of the road’s poor state on residents, particularly dust pollution and disruptions to businesses along the stretch.
According to him, the matter has been brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities, and arrangements are being made for a contractor to take over the works.
“The road is supposed to be awarded to a contractor entirely, but that particular spot is creating a lot of problems for residents,” he said. “The highways have sent a message that the spot should be worked on urgently, and they will speedily attend to it.”
Mr. Nabwomya appealed to residents to exercise patience, assuring them that government is fully aware of the situation and committed to resolving it.
“It’s not an easy situation, but it’s highly uneasy for the people around the area,” he added. “I’m not comfortable at all, and I am pushing those responsible to make sure that the place is attended to.”
Residents, who have endured prolonged dust pollution and accessibility challenges, remain hopeful that the promised intervention will bring lasting relief.
