The Upper East Regional Secretary Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini, has sharply criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2026 budget, describing it as uninspiring and incapable of addressing Ghana’s growing unemployment crisis.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Al-Khomeini argued that the government’s much-publicised job creation agenda offers little relief to ordinary Ghanaians, insisting that employment under the NDC has been reduced to what he termed “liberal work on construction sites.”
“We are all witnesses to how the economy is being governed. We are all seeing how this country is being governed to the knees,” he said. “There’s no money in the system. Teachers are suffering. Almost every sector of the economy is struggling, and people are desperately looking for jobs that are simply not there.”
According to him, rather than implementing sustainable and inclusive job-creation policies, the NDC has focused on replacing perceived NPP-affiliated workers in public institutions with party loyalists—an approach he described as politically driven and economically unproductive.
“The best this government can do is to go into offices, remove or fire NPP members, and replace them with NDC members. That is their mode of getting jobs for their people,” he alleged.
Al-Khomeini questioned the substance of the 2026 budget, asking what concrete opportunities it offers to young people and professionals across sectors. He argued that the government’s much-touted “big push” infrastructure agenda merely provides short-term, labour-intensive construction jobs without long-term career prospects or skills development.
“When you look at the budget, what is really there?” he asked. “To them, the only jobs are people doing manual work at construction sites. Clearly, when you look at it, there is no hope in this country under such leadership.”
He used the opportunity to rally support for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he described as the leader best positioned to restore confidence in the economy and inspire hope among Ghanaians.
“It is that hope Dr. Bawumia speaks about to party delegates,” Al-Khomeini said. “He has the right temperament, the right character, and the right integrity. He is the best person to lead this party to victory.”
