A political support group, Friends of Prosper, has shown appreciation to over 1,500 polling station executives in the Bolgatanga Constituency for their dedication and hard work during the 2024 general election, which contributed to the massive victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency.
The gesture, carried out on the eve of Christmas and the New Year celebrations, was aimed at easing the burden on the polling station executives, many of whom would otherwise have had to purchase foodstuffs from the market to celebrate the festive season with their families and loved ones.
Speaking to the media, Ayambila Peter Ayine, a lead member of Friends of Prosper, explained that the group embarked on the exercise to recognize the critical role played by polling station executives across the 27 wards in the Bolgatanga constituency.
According to him, each beneficiary received a package consisting of one bag of rice, mackerel, and frytol cooking oil, ensuring that every polling station executive benefited from the initiative.
Mr. Ayine noted that the items were distributed to the “nine-nine” executives at the polling station level, as the group’s limited resources made it impossible to bring all party supporters together at a single location for a large-scale event.
“We wanted to bring everybody together in one place, but our resources could not sponsor such an exercise. So we limited it to the executives, the nine-nine, so that each one will receive these items,” he explained.
He stressed that the primary objective of the gesture was to express gratitude to party foot soldiers for their sacrifices during the election and to motivate them to continue working hard for the party in future political engagements.
Mr. Ayine further clarified that the initiative was undertaken solely by Friends of Prosper and not by Prosper Awuni himself, noting that the group independently mobilized resources to carry out the exercise.
“Friends of Prosper has its own way of mobilizing funds. We solicited support from sympathizers and sponsors who believe in the cause we are pursuing, and they supported us to make this possible,” he added.
The appreciation exercise was warmly received by the polling station executives, many of whom described it as timely and a strong morale booster as they celebrate the festive season.
