Chiana SHS old students donate water tanks to boost water supply at alma mater

The Chianasco Old Students Association (COSA) has donated three water storage tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres, to Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region to help address the school’s persistent water supply challenges.

The donation follows concerns raised by school authorities over frequent water shortages that have disrupted academic activities and exposed students to safety risks.

According to COSA, the school currently relies on a single functional mechanized borehole with limited storage capacity. The borehole often breaks down due to excessive pressure, forcing students to leave campus to fetch water from nearby communities—a situation that disrupts teaching and learning and raises serious security concerns.

To help mitigate the problem, COSA mobilised resources to procure two of the water tanks, while the third was fully sponsored by the association’s current president, Dr. Shaibu Baani Azumah, after a formal appeal from the school’s management.

The additional storage tanks are expected to increase the school’s water reserve capacity and reduce pressure on the borehole system.

The tanks were officially handed over to the school on December 18, 2025. Madam Diana Kudewura and Hon. Solomon Abakare, immediate past executives of COSA, presented the items on behalf of the association.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Headmistress and the school, the Assistant Headmaster (Administration), Basil Awiah, along with other senior staff, expressed profound gratitude to COSA for its continued support.

Mr. Awiah noted that the intervention would significantly improve water availability on campus, enhance student safety, and ensure uninterrupted academic activities. He commended the old students for responding promptly to a critical need.

In a statement, COSA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Chiana Senior High School, describing the institution as pivotal to the personal and professional development of its members. The association also encouraged all old students to join COSA and contribute toward improving conditions for future generations of students.
