The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Aworigo, has assured the people of Manyoro and the wider Kassena-Nankana Municipality of his firm commitment to strengthening agriculture as a cornerstone of local and national development.

Mr. Aworigo gave the assurance at the 2025 Nimoro Festival, celebrated by the chiefs and people of Manyoro, where he emphasized that agriculture remains central to the development agenda of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

He said government policies are deliberately tailored to support farmers, enhance food security, and create economic opportunities, particularly for the youth.

“As part of the government’s agricultural policy, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting farmers with improved seeds and fertilizers through the Feed Ghana Programme, expanding irrigation and storage facilities, improving market access, and empowering the youth to see agriculture as a business, not a punishment,” Mr. Aworigo said.

The festival drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including the Kuoro Chairman, Abu Diaka Sukabe Nania V; Vice President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, Navro Pio Pe Dennis Aniakwoa Balinia Asagepare II; the Paramount Chief of Manyoro, Pe Prof. Atudiwe Atudipaare Manchi III; other paramount chiefs, traditional elders, the Municipal Chief Executive, security officials, heads of institutions, political party representatives, and members of the media.

Mr. Aworigo expressed gratitude to the Paramount Chief and the people of Manyoro for their strong support for the NDC in the 2024 general elections, describing the Nimoro Festival as more than a cultural celebration.

He said the festival serves as a reminder of the people’s history, identity, and collective responsibility to preserve their culture for future generations.

Celebrated under the theme “Our Culture, Our Crops, Our Celebration,” the festival, he noted, highlights the deep connection between tradition, agriculture, and unity. He stressed the importance of respecting the land and recognizing farming as a noble profession handed down through generations.

The MP acknowledged Manyoro’s strong agricultural base, particularly in the production of millet, maize, groundnuts, rice, and livestock, describing these activities as the backbone of the local economy and food security.

“The success of our farmers directly reflects the success of the municipality and the nation,” he said.

Mr. Aworigo also called for the preservation of Kassena-Nankana culture, urging parents and traditional leaders to teach younger generations their language, values, and customs. He expressed concern about the growing cultural disconnect among some youth and encouraged pride in local food, clothing, language, and traditions.

Looking ahead, he called for increased investment in modern farming methods, value addition, agro-processing, and cooperative societies to transform Manyoro into a thriving agricultural hub.

He concluded by commending chiefs, farmers, parents, and the youth for their roles in sustaining culture and food production, expressing optimism for fertile lands, abundant harvests, and a vibrant cultural heritage.
