Unidentified persons have drilled and blasted concrete electricity poles supplying power to Earl International Group Gold Ghana Limited, a large-scale underground mining company operating in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The incident, which affected the company’s operations site at Gbane, led to disruptions in electricity supply on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Confirming the development, the Assistant Public Relations Officer of the company, Albert Azongo, said management noticed intermittent power outages and subsequently conducted checks along the transmission line.

“We noticed some disruptions in the electricity supply to our operations site in Gbane on Wednesday, 24th December, 2025. After a thorough check, we discovered that some of the concrete electricity poles that anchor our transmission lines have been deliberately destroyed or disturbed by some unknown persons,” he stated.

Mr. Azongo explained that the damaged transmission lines serve as the main electricity supply from the Bulk Supply Point at Bolgatanga Tanzui to the mining site.

According to him, one of the concrete poles was completely blasted at the base with what appeared to be a mining explosive, while several others had been drilled and were ready to be blasted.

“This action by these unscrupulous persons is not only an attack on our company, but also an attack on the state because electricity is an asset of the state that we pay for to use in running our mining operations,” he said.

He described the act as criminal and tantamount to arson, stressing that it poses serious risks to operations, public safety, and national infrastructure.

Mr. Azongo said the company has officially reported the incident to the relevant authorities and has alerted key stakeholders within the host communities.

“We appeal to the state security agencies to help us identify the persons behind this act,” he added.

Earl International Group Gold Ghana Limited is one of the major large-scale mining companies in the Talensi District, employing hundreds of people and contributing significantly to the local and national economy. The motive behind the destruction of the electricity infrastructure remains unknown as investigations continue.
