The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in the Bolgatanga Municipality has recruited 170 young people to serve as Community Medical First Responders and Prison Service Assistants, as part of efforts to strengthen public service delivery.
Of the total number, 100 recruits will be deployed to the National Ambulance Service (NAS), while 70 will serve with the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS).
Speaking at a handover ceremony, the Municipal Director of the YEA, Alhaji Zakari Abdul Majeed Anyebase, said the initiative is aimed at boosting human resources within critical emergency and security services.
He explained that the Community Medical First Responder programme is supported through the Community Medical Services Fund, a policy initiative introduced under the leadership of Malik Basintale, to enhance the operations of the National Ambulance Service.
The recruits will serve on a two-year contract basis.
The Director of the National Ambulance Service, PAEMT Azeko Ayorogo, urged the beneficiaries to prioritize teamwork, discipline, and safety, stressing that effective emergency response depends on unity and commitment.
Similarly, the Upper East Regional Director of the Ambulance Service, DCEMT Azudaana Azuda, noted that the long-term sustainability of the programme would depend largely on the performance and professionalism of the recruits.
Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Ayoo commended the initiative, describing it as consistent with government policies aimed at productively engaging the youth and strengthening essential public services.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the media expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to discharge their duties diligently at their respective posts.
