Lead organiser of the Frafra Inter-Community Unity Soccer Tournament, Nelson Abagna, has appealed to non-governmental organisations, civil society groups and philanthropists to support the competition with long-term development projects for winning communities.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Mr. Abagna said the vision of the games goes beyond football, stressing the need for corporate and institutional support to create lasting impact.
“Going forward, we are hoping to get more corporate institutions to support us so that we can leave a legacy project for the winning community. Our dream is to one day build a school for a community that wins the tournament,” he said.
His remarks followed Tanzui’s emphatic 2–0 victory over Daporetindongo in the grand final of the Frafra Inter-Community Unity Soccer Tournament, a match that drew a large crowd and highlighted the competition’s goal of promoting unity among communities.
Tanzui dominated the final from the onset, displaying superior organisation, discipline and pace as they controlled proceedings. Their breakthrough came in the first half through a swift attacking move that was clinically finished, sending their supporters into celebration.
After the break, Tanzui doubled their advantage, capitalising on a defensive lapse to calmly slot home a second goal. The strike effectively sealed the contest, despite Daporetindongo’s efforts to stage a comeback.
Daporetindongo pushed forward in search of a lifeline but were repeatedly denied by a resolute Tanzui defence and an assured goalkeeper, who made several key interventions to preserve the lead.
At the final whistle, Tanzui players and supporters celebrated jubilantly, while Daporetindongo were applauded for their resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Organisers described the tournament as a success, noting that it fostered peace, friendship and cooperation among participating communities.
The main sponsor of this year’s tournament, Friends of Prosper, expressed satisfaction with the level of unity displayed and pledged to extend similar support to other community initiatives aimed at promoting cohesion within the municipality.
With the victory, Tanzui lifted the coveted trophy and further cemented their place in the growing history of a tournament that continues to use football as a tool for unity and community development.
