A local gospel musician and master of ceremonies (MC), Mr. Cletus Availa, has hosted an end-of-year community celebration in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, bringing together more than 200 people to promote unity and gratitude for life.
The event, held on January 6, brought together family members, mentors, religious leaders, and young musicians Mr. Availa has trained over the years in gospel music and event hosting. Guests were treated to food, meat, and drinks in a convivial atmosphere that underscored peaceful coexistence and community bonding.
Mr. Availa, who began his music career in the early 2000s as a Frafra gospel musician, said the gathering was a way of giving back to the community that has supported his journey. He noted that through his work as a musician and MC, he has helped train and mentor several young people, contributing to the growth of the creative arts in the district and beyond.
He appealed to senior musicians in the region to unite and inspire emerging artists, stressing that collaboration is key to strengthening the local music industry. According to him, music plays a powerful psychological role in society, capable of bringing joy, shaping behaviour, and offering healing, which is why he takes pride in his calling.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Availa advised young artists to remain focused and disciplined, warning against the temptation to seek quick financial gains due to comparisons with more established acts.
The Assembly Member for the Balungu-Lungu Electoral Area, Mr. John Ayamga, described the programme as an important platform for seeking counsel and blessings from elders and religious leaders. He emphasized the critical role of MCs and musicians in social functions, noting that music remains a source of both entertainment and employment.
Rev. Fr. Kenth Atiah commended Mr. Availa for using music as a positive tool for livelihood and moral guidance. He encouraged him to continue producing gospel music that aligns with biblical teachings and urged musicians to create content that speaks to the realities of young people and inspires positive change in communities.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Benjamin Akasise Azure, a retired educationist and father of the musician, said he recognized his son’s potential early and encouraged him to pursue music as a meaningful path. He noted that music is a powerful medium for delivering messages that can correct social wrongs and influence societal values.
