The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has assured residents that efforts are underway to significantly improve electricity supply across the district, a move he says will boost livelihoods and stimulate local economic activity.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Day Break Upper East on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Mr. Aka-Eri disclosed that the District Assembly, with support from the area’s Member of Parliament, has taken practical steps to address long-standing power challenges in some communities. He said electrical materials, including poles and conductors, have recently been donated to the community of Dachio to facilitate the extension of electricity supply.

“I want to assure the people of Bolgatanga East that the electricity projects we are working on are progressing,” the DCE said. “Recently, we went to donate electrical materials—poles and conductors—to the people of Dachio.”

He explained that the intervention was made using the MP’s personal resources after delays in the release of materials from the relevant ministry.

“The MP was still waiting for the ministry to release the materials, and they were not forthcoming, so we decided to step in to support the community,” Mr. Aka-Eri added.

The DCE indicated that similar support would be extended to other communities, while contractors are being urged to speed up their work to ensure wider coverage within a reasonable timeframe.

“We will donate to other communities and push contractors to accelerate the work so that, in about two years, electricity should no longer be a major challenge in the district,” he said, expressing appreciation to all stakeholders supporting the initiative.

Reflecting on his first year in office, Mr. Aka-Eri said his administration has enjoyed strong support from residents and appealed for continued cooperation to sustain development efforts.

He stressed that reliable electricity would ease daily hardships, particularly for residents who currently depend on neighbors or nearby communities to charge their mobile phones.

“It will free people—especially those who go to other people’s houses to charge their phones and are sometimes accused of stealing—from such difficulties,” he said.

Beyond household convenience, the DCE highlighted the broader economic benefits of expanded electricity access. He noted that many young electricians and artisans are unable to establish businesses in their home communities due to the lack of power.

“We have young people who do electrical work elsewhere but want to set up shops in their own communities. They are forced to move because there is no electricity here,” he explained.

According to Mr. Aka-Eri, the ongoing electrification drive is expected to attract small businesses, create jobs, and improve living standards across Bolgatanga East.

“I believe it will bring businesses into the area. It is something that will truly benefit the community,” he emphasized.
